■ Advice from Pace-Setters
Here is some advice from our Pace-Setters, including tips for mastering the course, key points to focus on in each section, and the right mindset during the race. Please use these insights to help visualize your run on race day.
① Start to 1km ― Don’t rush. Safety first!
The start area is often crowded, and you might not be able to run at your planned pace. But remember, the race has just begun! Avoid forced overtaking, stay aware of your surroundings, and run with a calm mind. It is also crucial not to use up too much energy this early in the race.
② 2km to 5km ― Be patient in the early stages.
The early part of the course is mostly downhill, and with the excitement of the race, it is easy to go too fast. To avoid fading in the second half, keep your pace in check and move forward with plenty of energy to spare.
③ 5km to 10km ― Find your own rhythm.
Once you clear Kagurazaka, the course heads toward Suidobashi and Tokyo Dome. Try to work off the runners around you while staying focused on your target pace. The cheers from the crowd will lift your spirits, but remember, you are still in the early half of the race. Make sure to stay on top of your hydration plan as you move forward.
④ 10km to 15km ― Save your energy for the second half.
Around the 10km mark, try to match your rhythm with the runner ahead of you, take a deep breath, and relax. Let’s keep some fuel in the tank to prepare for the challenges of the second half.
⑤ 16km to 18km ― This is where the real race begins!
From the 16km mark onward, the uphill segments continue, making this a true test of your endurance in the later half of the race. Utilizing the leg strength you saved early on, focus on your rhythm and move forward one step at a time. When the going gets tough, visualize yourself crossing the finish line.
⑥ 19.1km to Finish ― Keep a cool head until the very end.
Once you pass the 19.1km mark, the finish line is just around the corner. Treasure your own rhythm all the way to the end. As you head back into the MUFG Stadium (Japan National Stadium), take it in step by step and aim for a finish with a beautiful smile.
